Privacy policy
LetterSafe is made by an independent developer in Ireland ("we"). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the LetterSafe phone app and PC app. You can contact us at any time at lettersafe.app@gmail.com.
The short version
- Your documents stay on your own devices. We don't run a server that stores them, and we can't see them.
- We don't sell your data, show ads or track you across apps.
- Payments are handled by Google Play.
Your documents
Letters you scan, files you share into the app and emails you bring in are stored encrypted on your phone and, if you use the PC app, on your computer. Text is read from them on your own device. When you link your phone to your PC, they are copied directly between the two over your home network, encrypted with a key only your devices hold.
If you turn on the optional AI reading feature, the text and images of a document are sent to Anthropic, our AI provider, to be summarised and filed. Anthropic processes them to give you the result and does not use them to train its models. This feature is off unless you switch it on.
Email features
Reminder emails are sent from your own email account, from your own computer. If you bring emails into the vault, the PC app reads only the email folder or label you choose, in read-only mode. Your email password (an app password) is stored encrypted on your computer and is never sent to us.
Purchases
Subscriptions are bought through Google Play. Google processes your payment under its own privacy policy. We receive confirmation of whether your subscription is active, through our subscription service RevenueCat, using an anonymous app ID. We don't receive your card details.
Permissions the app uses
- Camera, to scan letters. Photos stay on your phone.
- Notifications, to remind you about dates. They are scheduled on your phone.
- Fingerprint or screen lock, to unlock the app. Android checks your fingerprint; the app never sees it.
- Network access, to sync with your own PC.
Keeping and deleting your information
Your documents stay until you delete them. Deleting a document removes it from your devices. Uninstalling the app removes everything it stored on your phone. Because we don't hold your documents, there is nothing for us to delete on our side, but you can contact us with any request about your data.
Children
LetterSafe is meant for adults managing household paperwork and is not directed at children under 16.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask what information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. You can also complain to the Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie).
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app.
